My background in Focusing
My Focusing teachers were Erna de Bruijn, Christine Langeveld and Aaffien de Vries. My gratitude towards them knows no bounds.
Important for me was the moment in 2018 (which I jokingly call 'my epiphany') when I realised that Focusing and Clean Language (a therapy approach developed by David Grove) would work very well together. (Much later did I learn that Gendlin and Grove knew each other well and had great mutual interest and respect). I started to work on integrating the two.
My first demonstration of this (still ongoing) work happened with me presenting a workshop at Metaphorum 2020, an international conference on Clean Language. A series of online workshops followed, which showed that bringing Focusing and Clean Language together struck a chord.
In October of 2025 I was invited to present a workshop on the subject at the 'Inspiration Day' of the Stichting Focusing Nederland, the Dutch Focusing organisation.
In my work as a counsellor I use both in combination. I wouldn't want to do it otherwise anymore. Adding Clean Language to Focusing has definitely brought a deepening; another layer of experiencing and understanding.
